Hi Folks,

It is the season of IPL again. "Invent and harvest" looks to be the mantra of IPL. From the day, IPL was announced, it was an instant hit with the public. With each edition the franchises seem to make more money than ever. Franchises are getting more and more creative and in the process making more money. In the last edition the concept of Fan clubs was introduced and was a mega hit. It is said that it took 150 years for a football team like Manchester United to have its own Fan club. Now IPL looks like breaking all the records. Movies and Cricket sell more than anything in India and IPL is precisely the combination of both. I don't know where all this is heading to, but just by thinking of the amount of money generated by this tournament drives me crazy.....

I saw a match between Mumbai & Rajasthan and it was pure slam bang. I realized that I did not relish the match, then I reasoned that probably I belonged to a different generation. Every ball was mercilessly dispatched towards the boundary. My prediction for the next IPL will be to introduce throwing rather than bowling. Running hard and bowling doesn't make sense as every ball is going to be hit, so why not introduce throwing. It will possibly save some time ???

Moving from cricket, the Government tried to bring out the bill that was under cold storage for 14 long years. The proposed bill to reserve 33.3 % seats in state legislatures and Parliament for women was first drafted by H.D. Devegowda led UDF. The bill could not be passed due to the lack of political consensus between various parties.

My opinion: The good thing is that this bill will encourage more women to come into politics. The worse thing is that the whole focus is on increasing the number. There should be an attempt in improving the quality of people entering politics. Mere numbers is not going to help. Rather it will bring in more puppets who will be doing jobs for the Biggies who bring them in.
Another major concern is that this bill will strengthen the already existing political dynasties (Gharanas). Sisters, aunts, mothers, spouses etc etc of the male politician will all be included in the Band......They all can have get-together parties in the respective Assemblies or even Parliament at the Government's expense. God bless us.

Signing off,
Krishna
