Hi Guys,
Today's headlines in the newspapers will draw the readers attention. VVIP security claimed the life of a 32 year old Sumit Verma. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was the chief guest for the Convocation of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education (PGIME).
A very ill Sumit Verma was taken from Ambala to Chandigarh where he was admitted to a private hospital for Dialysis. He developed breathing problems and was rushed to PGIME. Unfortunately, he could not get into the building due to the tight security arrangements for the PM. All the routes leading to the building were blocked. Family members said that after a two hour struggle they managed to reach the gate of the hospital but were not allowed inside and told to use another entry which was a kilometer away. It took a lot of time for them to get there and it was too late for Sumit.
Personally, I am so sad and dissapointed that a young man had to die because the system failed to take care of him. Of course you can get philosophical saying that he was destined to die. But I think if proper measures were taken Sumit would have been hale and healthy by now.
I am sure that the PM visit would have been known months before the D-day. Its the duty and responsibility of the security system to take care of the PM without causing too much inconvenience to the people. If I sound too harsh, at least a special arrangement for such unexpected emergencies should have been made.
I am not blaming anyone but I feel our system has definitely failed to save one life. The worst thing is that it happens again and again........
Signing off for now,
Krishna.
